Thesis Programming Models

My thesis project is an exploration of how design can generate interest in the civic program of a public library. In an attempt to determine the programmatic needs of a library, I determined the spatial percentages for the various areas, ie. reference desk, circulation desk, general adult stacks, childrens area etc. Using speculative square footages, these models are a study of how the physical needs of each area might be expressed using the six faces of cube. The detail image below represents the circulation area. For example, the open corners express the need for visual connectivity with the library as a whole, while the recessed square represents the need for an adjacent copy/print area that is accessible to both staff and patrons.
